Pupils look at the various areas and types of music. Pupils compose, rehearse and record their own pieces of music. They evaluate and appraise their performances, comparing their own with others. Pupils are encouraged to extend confidence with their own voice as well as been given the opportunity to try many musical instruments. Pupils also explore a range of musical styles and perform written pieces. We look at the music industry and the impact of music videos, working within a practical environment wherever possible.
Music in KS4 is now centred on the BTEC First Award in Music. This award focuses on the workings of the music industry, with students learning about job opportunities and careers. The whole of the industry is examined: performing, recording and marketing and students are given opportunities to opt for a number of units. These look at careers, performing, theory and even musical style so there is plenty to choose from!
We offer a range of private lessons which take place during the school day. A variety of lesson lengths and prices can be booked- contact the music staff for more information.
The school choir is an inclusive choir for anyone who enjoys singing. Made up of students from across all year groups, the choir sings mainly pop songs chosen by the pupils themselves, with the odd few thrown in by staff for good measure!
School Concert Band
The band is open to any pupils who have attained a reasonable level of competence on an instrument. We try to accommodate all instruments so if in doubt, please ask one of the music staff.
