Welcome to Bucklers Mead
Mrs Sara Gorrod
I am delighted to welcome you to Buckler’s Mead Academy – an excellent, caring, community academy where we all want the very best for every student and we constantly strive to improve. I consider it to be a real privilege to be the Headteacher and help shape the lives of our young people as they discover hidden talents.
At Buckler’s Mead we recognise young people develop at different rates, have differing hopes and ambitions and career paths. Here young people are exposed to a wealth of opportunities both within and beyond the classroom in an academy that places a strong emphasis on the development of well-rounded individuals of whom the staff and parents can feel justifiably proud. Visitors often comment on the warm, friendly and positive relationships between staff and students and within the student body itself which are immediately apparent and a hallmark of Buckler’s Mead. Young people learn in an environment where creative and engaging lessons, delivered by a dedicated team of staff are the norm.
Teachers have high expectations of themselves and of our students. From the minute they arrive in Year 7, our students are expected to achieve – and they do. Regardless of their ability, students are set challenging and ambitious targets for their academic progress. Over the past 5 years the quality of Teaching and Learning and overall levels of achievement have risen rapidly at Buckler’s Mead. We also have high expectations in relation to attendance, punctuality, uniform and behaviour, so everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Our academy environment is positive, engaging, supportive and purposeful.
Ofsted visited us in September 2014 and we were delighted to receive good judgments across every category.
Our students know exam success will help to “open doors for their future,“ but they also know that being part of this academy means that they will have opportunities to excel in activities beyond the classroom. These include blacksmithing, drama, the arts, sport, technology, languages, raising money for charity, being a student receptionist or prefect. Many of our students are also involved in community projects such as leading sports events in the area, hosting visiting groups and entering local competitions.
Feel free to come and witness the outstanding achievements of our staff and students by appointment. We look forward to meeting you.
